New To Shine?
We are thrilled to have a ministry for special needs individuals known as Shine. We desire to see them participate in all of our age-appropriate Black Rock Ministries here each week.
Our goal is for a Shine individual to be able to participate in programs and engage with his or her peers through the support of a designated Shine Buddy.

What is the Shine Ministry?
We are an individualized special needs ministry with modified Bible teaching and experiences that support the needs of each individual. If needed, we provide a self-contained classroom for ages 2-adult. However, we strive to allow everyone to participate as independently as possible. A Shine Buddy can be assigned so that the special needs individual can attend Sunday morning programs, weekday ministry activities, and Shine ministry events.
What to Expect on a Sunday Morning
You can park in the Shine parking spaces on the left side of the building. Come in the back doors and find the Shine room in the first hallway to your right. Sign in at the door. Your child will remain in the Shine room or integrate into an age-appropriate Sunday school class with a Shine Buddy. The Shine ministry follows the Kid’s Ministry curriculum and your child will learn the Bible through individualized and modified programming.
Who are the Volunteers?
Our volunteers have a heart to work with special needs individuals. They are vetted through background checks, have signed Black Rock’s statement of faith and lifestyle agreement, and have met with the Shine Coordinator. We also provide cutting-edge training by professionals in the field of working with special needs individuals.
Parent Opportunities
Parents are given the opportunity to participate in Sunday morning services, parent education, and support when raising a child with special needs. Opportunities such as meeting with the Shine Coordinator, going over IEPs, group professional training, and family activities.
Other Sunday Morning Opportunities
When a special needs individual demonstrates the ability to integrate into other ministry opportunities, the following opportunities are available to them with a Shine Buddy.
Kids Church – Sunday morning Kids Church has resumed with additional safety protocols. Through age-specific lessons, engaging activities, and small groups, children learn biblical truths and real-life lessons that they can apply to their lives every week.
Kids Cove BIRTH-AGE 5 – Each age-specific lesson is designed to communicate the love of Jesus to preschoolers in simple ways that they will understand and respond to.
UPTOWN K-2ND GRADE – We seek to engage kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade with truths about God and the Bible through entertaining lessons that bring the Bible to life.
The Barn 3RD-5TH GRADE – Kids will build a relationship with God through engaging Bible lessons, which will develop their faith and character, and establish a strong spiritual foundation.
DEEP END 6TH-8TH GRADE- Deep End is a practical way for our 6th-8th grade students to deepen their walk with Christ.
During the Week Opportunities
When assigned with a Shine Buddy your child has the opportunity to participate in these age-appropriate ministries.
Kids Midweek – Kids Midweek is for kids in Grades 1-5 where they have the opportunity to explore God’s word and grow in their relationship with Jesus while having a great time playing games, worshiping God, building friendships, and more!
Fusion – is our high school ministry for 9th – 12th graders. They meet on Tuesdays at BRC from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
Thrive – is our middle school ministry for 6th -8th graders. They meet on Wednesdays at BRC from 6:30PM to 8:15PM.
Sanctuary – is our ministry for Young Adults(18-35 years.) They meet on Sundays at BRC at 5:00PM.
